UCA News earlier last month reported that Indian Christians and pro-life supporters gathered for the first 'National March for Life' on August the 10th in New Delhi, on the day that marked the 51st anniversary of the law (Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act) that legalised abortion in India.

India, shockingly, records roughly 15 million babies being aborted each year.

Over 100 people gathered with permission by the government to hold the "Day of Mourning" for the pre-born babies that are aborted in India and around the world. Prayers and Christian hymns could be heard, as well as pro-life placards.

The rally was organised by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services in India and the Delhi Catholic Charismatic Service of Communion to raise awareness about abortion. Auxiliary Bishop Deepak Valerian Tauro and chairman of the pro-life commission addressed the crowd.

“We are lucky because we are alive today and have gathered here. It is our moral obligation as well as a sacred duty to pray that people will be inspired by God to stop abortion,”

"Being a Christian, at least we can try in our capacities to help stop this practice in our country"

May this be the first of many National Marches for Life, and that it may spread to other parts of India and attract more and more people in the years to come. It will no doubt save lives and spread the pro-life message.
