The Death March Continues
22.08.2019
In the American state of New Jersey, the Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act became active on August 1, and the state became the eighth to permit seriously-ill persons to self-administer death-causing drugs. Democrats now dominate the state Congress in that state, and celebrated their success after various failed attempts in past years. Two of the Democrats who voted in favour are self-proclaimed “practising Catholics”, and professed that they were “torn” between the principles of their faith and “my compassion for those who suffer… at the end of their lives”. Dr James Checchio, bishop of Metuchen, NJ, branded this law as “an utter failure of government and indeed all society to care truly… for the suffering and vulnerable in our midst”.
