Supreme Court Justice to Chair Abortion Assembly
28.07.2016
In an apparent attempt to boost the credibility of its "Citizen's Assembly" (which it intends to pave the way for a referendum to remove Ireland's constitutional protection of unborn children), the government has chosen Supreme Court Justice Mary Laffoy to chair the body. The decision was made at the last Cabinet meeting before the summer recess.
The group will comprise 99 citizens to be selected by a polling company. The government claims the members will be selected randomly and will be representative of the entire population.
