Mother Delivers Healthy Baby Boy After Successful Abortion Pill Reversal

22.08.2024

Dr. Dermot Kearney, an Irish pro-life physician, is celebrating the birth of a healthy baby boy after a young mother successfully underwent an abortion pill reversal.

In March 2020, the UK introduced a policy allowing women to perform home abortions using medication. However, many women who took the first pill, mifepristone, soon regretted their decision and sought a way to reverse the process. Dr. Kearney, has been at the forefront of providing a solution by prescribing progesterone to help sustain pregnancies in such cases.

Reflecting on a recent success, Dr. Kearney shared a post on X on August 1st stating, "Wonderful news. Another baby (a beautiful boy) was born yesterday 31st July to a beautiful courageous mother in the East of England who sought help with abortion pill reversal treatment in early pregnancy after regretting taking Mifepristone at 7 weeks gestation. 62+ babies now."

Since the legalisation of telemedicine for home abortions in 2022, there has been a noticeable increase in women quickly regretting their decision to take the first abortion pill. In response, many have turned to progesterone treatment as an emergency measure to try and save their pregnancies. In the UK alone, at least 62 babies have been born following this treatment, with Dr. Kearney directly involved in 29 of these cases. He also mentioned that several more births are expected in the near future.

Dr. Kearney's work has not been without obstacles. In April 2021, the General Medical Council (GMC) imposed a temporary ban on him from providing Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) treatment, citing safety concerns. However, the ban was lifted in March 2022 after the treatment was deemed safe, and no evidence of professional misconduct was found.

Globally, it is estimated that over 5,000 babies have been born following APR treatment, with the service having been introduced in the UK in 2020.

Despite his achievements, Dr. Kearney has faced significant criticism from pro abortion activists on social media, who have labeled him a "disgrace." He has accused organisations like the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) of spreading misinformation about the risks and feasibility of abortion pill reversal.

In contrast, Dr. Kearney emphasised that the pro-life movement is grounded in "truth, courage, and love," and remains committed to providing support to women who seek alternatives after initiating a medical abortion.
