Indiana Baby Survives Abortion, State Report Reveals
17.09.2024
A baby has survived an attempted abortion in Indiana, according to a report from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH). According to LifeSiteNews, under Indiana law, any baby born alive during an abortion must be treated as a person, with healthcare professionals required to take all necessary steps to preserve the child’s life. Despite the lack of additional information, the event highlights the dangers and complexities associated with abortion. The state’s data also shows a dramatic 98.6% decrease in abortions this year, largely due to Indiana's stringent pro-life laws. Despite the drop, the report details an instance where a “Fetus Was Born Alive” during an abortion procedure, though further details remain undisclosed.
The IDOH report, which tracks terminations from April to June, documented 27 abortions, significantly fewer than the 1,938 reported in the same period in 2023. Most of these were carried out due to "lethal fetal anomalies" or risks to the mother's health. Nine abortions involved “intracardiac injections,” a method known as "heart attack abortion," where chemicals are injected to stop the baby's heart.
Despite the decline in abortions, complications remain prevalent. The report lists 23 cases of complications, including infections, vaginal bleeding, and incomplete abortions.
The report detailing the case of the baby who survived an abortion was released by the Indiana Department of Health in their "Terminated Pregnancy Report" for the period between April 1 and June 30, 2024. This report was published at the end of August.
