Exit Poll Shows Many Yes Voters Unhappy with Planned Abortion Law
28.05.2018
While two thirds of those who voted in Friday’s abortion referendum supported repeal of the 8th Amendment, exit poll results indicate that a much smaller percentage support the liberal abortion law the Government is planning to enact. According to the exit poll conducted by RTÉ in conjunction with a number of Irish universities and carried out by Behaviour & Attitudes, on 52% of voters agree with the plan to allow abortion on demand up to 12 weeks.
The poll, which slightly overstated the Yes vote, also showed that Fianna Fáil is the only major political party whose voters were mainly on the No side. Despite the strong support for the Yes campaign from FF leader Mícheál Martin, just over half of his party’s supporters voted No.
