Cabinet Memo Admits Abortion Numbers Likely to Soar

A leaked document reveals that the government expects the number of Irish abortions to rise similarly to other countries after the legalisation of abortion. In the UK, the number of abortions increased by over 600 per cent in the first five years after the passage of the Abortion Act.

A memorandum sent to the Cabinet last week said the exact levels of abortion cannot be predicted, but it adds that, “It is expected that, as in other jurisdictions, an increase in the expected numbers could be anticipated in the early years.”
