Boylan Given Key Role in Abortion Roll Out
16.10.2018
Dr Peter Boylan has been appointed to help the government implement new abortion services in Ireland. The former Chairman of the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists was a vocal supporter of the Yes campaign in the abortion referendum. Dr Boylan will consult with medical experts about the introduction of abortion and will help with the drafting of clinical guidelines.
Minister for Health Simon Harris welcomed the appointment, saying, “Peter Boylan has a wealth of experience in caring for women. Over the course of his work, he has proven himself to be a strong patient advocate and a compassionate campaigner for women’s rights.”
The Budget provided €12 million for the provision of abortion services next year. Although Minister Paschal Donohoe did not mention this in his speech to the Dáil, it was included in his more detailed Budget Expenditure Report.
