Amnesty Goes EVEN MORE Pro-Abortion

11.07.2018

The former human rights organisation Amnesty International, which played a prominent role in the campaign to remove constitutional protection for the life of unborn children from the Irish constitution, has adopted an even more radical pro-abortion position.

At its annual conference in Warsaw, Poland, delegates voted to adopt new pro-abortion proposals to “tackle the devastating human rights consequences of misguided attempts by countries to criminalize and restrict abortion,” according to a news release from the group.

The new position urges countries to not only legalize abortion but also to guarantee that women and girls can easily and “safely” have abortions for basically any reason at any point in pregnancy. It describes abortion as “a human right” for women and girls. Since 2007, when Amnesty controversially adopted a pro-abortion position, it has advocated for the legalisation of abortion in limited circumstances.

“We want to make sure we are well placed to fight for the human rights of millions of people whose lives are impacted by how governments criminalise or restrict access to abortion …” said Tawanda Mutasah, Amnesty International’s senior director for law and policy.
