Rise in Number of Late Abortions Revealed

31.01.2019

A parliamentary question has revealed the number of babies killed in late-term abortions in England and Wales. It also shows that the number of these abortions is increasing.

Sir John Hayes MP (Conservative, South Holland and the Deepings) asked the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care how many abortions were performed after 20 weeks in each of the last five years.

The answer revealed that the number rose from 2,753 in 2013 to 3,564 in 2017—an increase of 30 per cent. The combined total of abortions at this late stage in the last five years is 14,996. In 2013, 1.5 per cent of all abortions were at 20 weeks or later. By 2017, this had risen to 1.8 per cent.
