All Pro-Life Amendments Voted Down

07.12.2018

A total of 65 amendments to the abortion bill were tabled at Report Stage in the Dáil. Amendments were tabled by pro-life and pro-abortion TDs, but only a handful—those supported by Health Minister Simon Harris were approved. Among the proposals voted down by the Dáil were protections for doctors, informed consent for women having abortions, pain relief for babies, dignified disposal of babies’ remains, and parental notification for minors seeking abortions. TDs also refused to require doctors to care for babies who survive a failed abortion. A proposal to exclude abortions on grounds of race, sex, or disability was also rejected.
